Where do wrinkles come from? And how you can prevent them.

Wrinkles—the eight-letter word we’ve grown to loathe. We’ve surveyed thousands of women, and wrinkles are their number-one skin concern. These first signs of aging are easy to spot. Ever wonder how we get them? We’ll let you in on some info about why we get wrinkles and what we can do to get rid of those suckers.

What causes wrinkles?

Some things we just can’t control.  As we age, collagen production decreases, so our skin becomes thinner (too bad our bodies don’t respond the same way) and loses its elasticity.  Even the fat cells which make our skin look supple get smaller, so they don’t fill in the gaps.  As a result, our skin sags, becomes dry, and develops wrinkles.

Have you heard the term “photoaging”?  Dermatologists use it to refer to skin damage caused by ultraviolet rays from sunlight.  Though it would be nice to bask in the sun every day, sunlight causes the outer layer of skin to become thinner.  This makes the collagen in our skin break down more rapidly than it would with aging au naturel.  Besides, who wants wrinkles, age spots, a blotchy complexion, and leathery skin?

Worse, there are free radicals, daily facial expressions, and even gravity working against us (not to mention stress).

Send wrinkles on their way.

So how can we run away from wrinkles?  We can’t escape wrinkles completely, but we can slow their progress.  And by choosing the right skincare products, we can help reverse the visible signs of aging.

The most important thing you can do to prevent wrinkles is to protect your skin from the sun.  Enjoy the sun safely.  Make sure to use a daily sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 that contains both UVA and UVB protection.  Also wear a hat or sunglasses, and use self-tanners if you want to be a bronzed beauty.  Consume fruits, veggies, and fish rich in vitamins and antioxidants; they’ll fight the development of free radicals in your body.  If you’re a non-smoker you’re ahead of the game, since puckering while smoking can intensify lines around the mouth.  The smoke is also dehydrating to the skin.  Though it’s hard to be a superwoman and still get eight hours of beauty sleep, try to snooze as long as you can to allow your body to repair itself.

Lastly, if you chose the right anti-aging products, you are well on your way to fighting the battle against wrinkles.  Choose products that contain retinol to exfoliate the skin, collagen to maintain skin structure, antioxidants to prevent future damage, Argireline to relax facial expressions, and Matrixyl®3000 to firm and lift the skin.

From what I know, you can't get rid of wrinkles unless you get laser treatment. The greatest tip I have for young girls and adults is to stay out of the sun!!
Use products with natural ingredients that you can find at spas, heath or herbal stores. You can also find them at Hannaford supermarkets and Shaws supermarkets.
I read that Jojoba oil is great for your skin and may prevent further wrinkles. It doesn't clog pores and blends into your skin without leaving it oily. If you google it you won't believe all the things it can do. I apply it on my face at night and in the morning I mix a few drops with my moisturizer. I exfoliate twice a week, use a good toner morning and night and moisturizer just in the morning. I read that you have to let your skin breath at night, so I dont apply moisturizer. Then I use Bare Minerals (it's great) for my foundation. I also found out that extra virgin olive oil is good and won't clog your pores.
I always hear and read about using products with vitamin A, C & E.
What facial products have these ingredients in them? I have been searching. Happy Faces....

I have read some really great books by #1 best-selling authors and Doctors. I have learned that anything rich in anti-oxidants and omega oils will help reduce the signs of aging.

Aging is primarily caused from sugar and stress. (insulin and adrenaline). The combination of these two hormones is really bad, not only on your skin but your whole body.

Also, your brain and skin are made of the same tissue, so anything that is not good for your brain, or your skin is just not good for you. Period. Sugar causes inflammation and inflammation is the number one cause of aging in your entire body.

I'm not a doctor, just telling you what I have learned from the experts.

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Wow Kathleen! I generally don't leave comments for anything but I had to say something here. I don't know what "experts" you have been talking to but your brain and your skin are certainly NOT made up of the same tissue! Brain tissue is highly specialized nerve tissue while skin is epithelial tissue. So not the same. I'm not a doctor but I do have a Bachelor's degree in Biology. This is first-year stuff!

There is a website that you can plug all of your beauty products into and it will tell you how safe they really are:
www.safecosmeticdatabase.com
click "health/toxins"
click "sign up (then fill in)" or "no, thanks.." in the pop-up
Then fill in your first product in the search box by product, ingredient, or company
It is easy, but I suggest gathering all of your goods first. ; )
They grade all by red (7-10, high hazard, or what I call, dangerous), yellow (3-6, moderate hazard), and green (0-2, low hazard).
I personally decided that all of the "red" would go into the garbage, the "yellow" if on the low side, would be used until an alternate was found, then go ahead with the green. I started looking for replacements on the list of lower numbers in the green zone.
I like that the ingredients are listed and that you can become familiar with the "bad" ones through this list.
Have fun getting healthier, and exposing yourself to harmful ingredients less. ; )

You can wear almost anything as long as it fits you well and suits your body. Be careful with colors. The only treatment is wearing corrective lenses.Macular degeneration is another age-related eye problem affecting seniors. Persol 2244-S

I think that we age from the inside out and by the time that we begin to see wrinkles, it's too late. My saving "face" has been to drink 8 glasses of water a day. I figured since our inner organs need plenty of water so too does our outter organ, skin. It's worked for me and I'm 56 but look like I'm 46.

Hi,
Protect your skin from the sun.The sun is one of the major causes of wrinkling.Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF rating every day.Apply it about 20 minutes before you leave the house, and reapply every 4 hours. If you are sweating or in water, apply more often. Wear a hat if you are spending extensive time in the sun.You should also wear sunglasses which protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
