Latisse: Luscious Lashes or Scary Side Effects?

We all long for longer lashes. But what lengths will we go to get them, and what are we willing to risk?

Latisse, a prescription treatment meant to grow longer, fuller, darker lashes, was actually released in 2001 as a Glaucoma medication called Lumigen. The side effects of Lumigen were longer lashes.

Besides costing over $100 a month and about $300 before full results can be realized, Latisse also needs to be used continuously to maintain results—which gets expensive!

Now for the not-so-luxurious side effects… According to information reported in the actual Latisse commercial and by Consumer Reports AdWatch, Latisse may cause skin darkening that may not be reversible. The main ingredient in Latisse also has potential to increase brown iris pigmentation, which is likely permanent. So those with blue or green eyes could end up with brown eyes. However, Latisse is applied to the lids with an applicator brush, which minimizes the side effects. You could also experience itchy, red eyes.  And if the medicine drips or spreads too many times, you could end up with hair on parts of your face you don’t want it.

Grow your lashes—without side effects.

If you’d like to enhance your lashes, but don’t want to worry about troublesome side effects and painfully high prices, I’d recommend trying a mineral-enriched lash-conditioning mascara such as L’Oréal Bare Naturale Mascara, which contains jojoba oil, Vitamin E, and aloe. It’s hypoallergenic and ophthalmologist tested. I love the Black Brown shade. It makes me look like I have naturally long lashes. You can pick it up in your local drugstore, without a prescription.

I’d also recommend the Lash Conditioning Makeup Remover from Timeless Secret. (Call 1 (866) 514-8944 to order.) It gently removes your makeup while conditioning your lashes, and doesn’t need to be rinsed off. So you’re lengthening your lashes overnight without risks!

I have been using Latisse for almost a year. And I don't have a problem with it at all. And my lashes have grown quite long. In fact I had to trim them. The only problem I have is, when they start to grow out, the lashes grow all ascew. Otherwise, I get quite alot of comments on how long they are. I have even been asked if the were real.

I never encountered anyone who had negative side effects with latisse. ill check on other physicians to see if their patients had anything bad to say about the product.

Thanks for posting about the L'oreal alternative.

Does anyone know if you can use Latisse on your eyebrows? I have very skimpy brows.
Thanks, Staceyann C. Dolenti

What I would like to know is, if they have found something that grows eyelashes, (which is hair), how come they haven't used the same for growing hair on the head? Just thought I would ask.

Hi,
I'm thinking of dying my hair a copper red color. I have gold blonde hair right now with blue eyes and fair skin. Should I? I love my hair color but I want to switch it up. If I use a demi-permanent hair color will i still get my natural hair color back in about a month or two?

I used latisse for a few months and applied it with a fine sable brush but, I am growing hair in the start of my eye and a patch on both outside corners of my face where it must have run over!!
It is a very senstive area to try to remove ! I have tried tweezing but, it is really hard to do! Any ideas??
