Winter is fast approaching, and as it starts to get colder outside, our skin tends to become drier.  You may not realize that certain things we do contribute to our dry skin. For example, I happen to love blasting the hot water in the shower so I defrost like a snowwoman in the morning, and I love leaving the space heater on all day to stay cozy. However, both of these suck the moisture from skin and leave it itchy and dry.

Here are some tips to keep your skin hydrated and protected even in cold weather.

• Take warm showers, not hot.  Limit shower time, and moisturize immediately after.
• Wear moisturizing sunscreen on your face.  Skin damage can occur in any season, sun or no sun.
• Wear gloves, a hat, and a scarf to protect exposed skin when outdoors.
• Hydrate from the inside out.  Warm up with tea, an antioxidant-rich beverage that hydrates and nourishes your skin.

Pu-erh tea in the Timeless Secret Skincare line is a great way to treat your skin from the inside out.  It contains antioxidants to combat free radicals that contribute to aging skin, and even contains ingredients used in the skincare line itself.

• Moisturize your body and hands too.  Many of us moisturize our face daily, but make sure to moisturize your body too.  Apply moisturizer right after your shower to seal in the moisture, and reapply throughout the day as needed.  I like to keep hand lotion at my desk so I can reapply after I wash my hands throughout the day.

My favorite body moisturizer these days is the luxurious Chocolate Body Butter from Brown Bag Botanicals.  It’s the perfect combination of shea and cocoa butter, and it smells delicious!  It’s great for keeping chapped hands, body, and rough spots like heels and elbows hydrated, and it’s also recommended for inflammation due to eczema.  It’s also a calorie-free way to enjoy chocolate all day.  There’s even a December buy-one-get-one-free special. Stay warm and hydrated this winter.

I mix up some olive oil, brown sugar and oatmeal and use it like a scrub in the shower at least once a week. It gets rid of dead skin(which helps the skin absorb moisturizers better) and leaves the skin feeling so soft!

I've been in the modeling and beauty business for decades and read magazines and articles in many publications and sources.

This is the best article that I've read on skincare for years. Good job! Everyone says the same thing, over and over. Your tip on hydrating provided new info on the Pu-erh tea--which I am definitely going to check out. I loved your statements about the Chocolate Body Butter. Sounds yummy! I'm going to recommend it to my sons for their wives and to my daughters to try. And I'll be enjoying it soon, too!!

Thanks for the great tips!!
